One of the outstanding properties of Spirulina and Chlorella is their odor-neutralizing effect. For animals that smell through the skin or from the mouth without a medical diagnosis, Spirulina / Chlorella can be a worthwhile alternative to the commercially available chlorophyll pastes.
They are recommended primarily because they do not contain preservatives or minerals/vitamins.
Spirulina is grown in extremely alkaline freshwater lakes or systems with pH levels between 8 to 10. When metabolized, it supports alkalinity and counteracts hyperacidity. Its iodine content is low (not a seaweed), so it is safe to feed to animals with thyroid problems.
The dried powder contains up to 70% of high quality, easily digestible protein with almost all essential amino acids. It is therefore ideal as an energy supplier in case of increased demands on the animal's activity.
Spirulina platensis is not an alga in the true sense of the word, but belongs to the so-called blue bacteria. Its cells do not have a nucleus and the cell envelope is so soft that the abundant nutrients, vitamins and minerals contained in its organism can be easily absorbed through the intestine.
