The PH 5 pendant lamp is part of the PH3 shade series and has evolved from a hanging lighting solution to various types of lighting for tables, floors, walls, and a variety of pendant lamps. Over the years, more than a thousand variants have been developed, differing in size, material, finish, and light source. The PH 5 and its younger sibling, the PH 50, can be hung low over the table and consist of three shades and cones on three arms. The two smaller shades enhance the spectral composition of the light, which is barely perceptible to the human eye. The design of the visible reflector allows for both vertical and horizontal light distribution. The lower shade is made of sandblasted glass, which diffuses the light.

Poul Henningsen was born in Copenhagen and was the son of the famous Danish actress Agnes Henningsen. He studied at the Technical School in Fredericksburg and at the Technical Institute in Copenhagen, where he began to focus on traditional functionalist architecture.
