Horgenglarus Klio

Klio appears both contemporary and archetypal. The combination of traditional craftsmanship and state-of-the-art manufacturing technology makes the demanding geometry of this heavy wooden chair possible. The backrest, which flows seamlessly into the armrests, is bent from a 13.8-kilogram piece of laminated wood—either beech or oak—on a machine that is over 100 years old. After three weeks in the drying chamber, the backrest is shaped using the latest CNC technology and then finely sanded by hand. The elegantly curved backrest contrasts with the body, which features precise edges. With horgenglarus' solid construction and ergonomically shaped seat, a very comfortable armchair is created. The characterful Klio brings a touch of poetry into the clear world of horgenglarus. It connects the formally divided collection, where rounded, organic shapes stand alongside angular, linear designs. Klio is a synthesis of both worlds. Klio is available as a chair with short armrests and as an armchair with long armrests. Klio was first presented at the Swiss Designers' Saturday in November 2014. The poetically mystical installation by Studio Hannes Wettstein was awarded the Designers' Saturday Silver Award 2014.
