The Swiss wooden chair classic is a legend. With its simple form, the anonymous work design from 1918 appears as if from another world in the midst of the furniture of the historicism of the time: "clear and unadorned in its form, materially appropriate in its manufacture and unpretentious, robust, sustainable and self-evident - an icon of Swiss design," Hubertus Adam, journalist, architecture critic and former director of the Architekturmuseum Basel, describes the chair. The classic thus anticipates the guiding principle of Swiss type furniture. Originally produced as an inn stool, the 10 S with its unobtrusive expression fits into many atmospheres. Probably every Swiss has sat on it. It has been in schools, restaurants and homes for decades. Like the Swiss Army knife, the bestseller is part of Swiss design history and thus a cultural asset. Its exceptional quality is also evidenced by the fact that the classic is not a re-edition, but has been produced continuously and unchanged since 1918; only the dimensions were carefully adjusted in 1999, after all, we are larger today than we were 100 years ago. Due to the finest, expert workmanship, as it says in an advertisement in 1917, the chair with the seat frame, the rear feet and the back made of solid wood bent in steam, survives decades. Its solid construction makes any cross-bracing unnecessary, its ergonomics make it very comfortable.
