In fact, the structure reminded Patricia Urquiola of the shell of an armadillo, which is why she chose the name Tatou for the lighting series.

Patricia Urquiola – designs influenced by Italian culture

Born in Spain, Patricia Urquiola studied architecture at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and at the University of Milan. As the head of the design team at Lissoni Associati, she designed lighting and furniture for renowned manufacturers as early as 1996. However, she found her creative freedom only after founding her own design studio.
