Its feathers provide excellent thermal performance and insulation properties. It lines its nest with down to protect the delicate brood from wind and cold. After the breeding season, the down is collected from the abandoned nest.

This down is particularly large, light, and soft. It has tiny little branches that allow it to interlock like a fleece. This creates air chambers, which contribute to its high heat retention capacity. Only half the amount of conventional goose down is needed for an ultra-light, carefree sleeping experience.
