DisplayPort is a universal connection standard for transmitting video and audio signals. Its primary applications include connecting monitors and televisions to computers, Blu-ray players, and similar devices.

The connector takes up less space, making it more suitable for portable display devices (ultrabooks, notebooks/laptops) or for two connections on a graphics card (on a slot plate).

The practical plug design prevents the cable from being pulled out of the DisplayPort socket.
