Your layered look will look much more stylish with this simple trick

A cleverly placed safety pin is all you need to add style to your layered look in an instant. I’ll show you how to do it step by step.

In terms of style, a layered look lives from the fact that you can really see every individual layer. Different materials, lengths and structures intertwine, giving the outfit depth and movement. But that’s easier said than done.

Want to show off a T-shirt under your sweater, for example? It’ll usually remain completely hidden without added help. Good thing there’s a simple styling trick – and all you need is a safety pin. Its size depends on the thickness of your sweater.

Best to get a mixed set. If you’re worried that the safety pin might come undone and prick you, there are also special versions with a double clasp.

How it works

Step 1: Grasp the sides of your sweater with both hands about ten to 15 centimetres above the hem and fold the fabric over from top to bottom.

Step 2: Hold the fold with one hand and reach under your T-shirt with the other. Leave your thumb on the outside of the sweater so that you can secure both layers.

Step 3: Now attach the safety pin directly under the fold. This way it’ll remain invisible.

Voilà!

That’s it – your layered look should now stay in place throughout the day.

Additional tips

If you want to embellish the whole thing a little, you can also use a brooch instead of a safety pin. However, you’ll have to add it visibly through the layers from above.

If you also want your T-shirt to peek out from under the sweater collar, my colleague Laura has the perfect hack for you:
