Your biker jacket’s double life’s about to be exposed
It’s the perfect time of year to parade your leather jacket around town. It’s the subtle differences in a jacket’s cut that really make a difference – think collars or none, zips in the middle or slightly off-centre.
You don’t need to have a beast of a bike between your legs to justify sporting a leather jacket. Nope. This garment has been considered an absolute must-have in every well-curated wardrobe for quite some time now. When it’s referred to, the word «biker» is often added. And what purpose does this serve? Merely to point out its original connection to the above-mentioned ride. What it doesn’t say much about is the cut or the silhouette of the garment. After all, biker jackets are far from all the same. Read on to find out more about your (potentially) favourite jacket.
The racer jacket
It doesn’t really get more low-key than this. The racer jacket is mainly characterised by one thing: nothing. It doesn’t have a lapel, just a small stand-up collar. It also has an unwavering zip that goes from A to B without any detours as well as two unobtrusive side pockets. If it’s a very elaborate model, it might be entrusted with the addition of one or two zip pockets just above the chest.
Whether you get into the saddle of your Kawasaki (wearing a helmet, of course) or hit the streets on foot is entirely up to you. The main thing is that you know what you’re actually wearing.
The double rider jacket
Slightly less sleek, maybe giving off the vibe of a dignified Harley Davidson rider. That’s the double rider jacket. What its sibling lacks in detail, this model makes up for. The bare minimum includes a classic lapel, a zip that’s slightly offset and pockets on both sides. A diagonal breast pocket and a small flap pocket, originally designed to hold, are almost always standard elements, too. Cheeky additions might include a belt along the bottom hem as well as flaps adorning the shoulder area.
