Why Falke’s Homepad socks are my winter favourites

If I get cold, it’s usually my feet first. That’s why in November at the latest, the big moment arrives for my seasonal foot favourites – Falke’s Homepads.

Sure, slippers would also help keep my feet warm on cool floors. But I refuse to be a complete square. I first tried the Lodge Homepads socks two years ago – and have stuck with them ever since.

The Falke Homepads are essentially knitted socks made from 93 per cent cotton, with seven per cent polyamide added to make them more tear-proof. They feature anti-slip nubs on the sole and a vegan leather loop on the heel, which is more of a visual element. You could use it to pull your socks up, but I wouldn’t recommend it. It’s easy enough to get them over your ankles without using the loop.

I always wear the Homepads over my everyday socks. They keep my feet warm throughout the day when I’m working from home as well as when I’m watching Netflix in the evening. The fine plush layer on the inside helps. Of course you could also put them on over your bare feet, but I get really cold feet, so I appreciate the extra layer. It’s scientifically proven that people who often have cold feet get sick faster (link in German).

With the nubs on the sole, I have as much grip on the way to the coffee machine as Lewis Hamilton on the curvy racetrack in Monza. And yet, the nubs hardly collect dirt.

The printed nubs offer improved grip on wooden and stone floors.

Having said that, I do need to wash the Homepads regularly, as I wear them virtually every day from November to at least February. I throw them in the washing machine at 30 or 40 degrees and choose the gentle cycle. Two pairs of Homepads usually get me through the cold season. By the end of winter, the sole’s so thin that it tears or the nubs come off.

Conclusion: socks for Apple fans?

I have a sneaky suspicion – maybe it’s not just the fact that Falke’s Homepads work so well that makes me a fan, but also their name. Homepad – that sounds just like a fusion of iPad and HomePod turned into socks, doesn’t it?
Being associated with Apple doesn’t have to be a bad thing. After all, the California-based company stands for quality – and a proud price. Just like Falke does in the world of socks. But for the proud price, I get well-engineered, durable socks with a great fit that are sustainably made in Europe.
