What makes your favourite cup?

As a coffee lover, the design of my mug is particularly important to me. It's with me every day and I'm not alone: because my Galaxus colleagues also have a favourite mug, I wanted to know why they prefer it to other models.

Where did you discover this cup?
It must have been in Migros.

Why is it your all-time favourite?
It's not a beauty, but it has other qualities. I've been taking it with me on our traditional Outdoor Week for over ten years. Because it's light and doesn't break. And because of its exceptionally ugly colour, I never mix it up with the other mugs.

Best moment with the cup?
The evening on a moss-covered plain at almost 3000 metres above sea level. The moon was shining and it was incredibly warm for this altitude. It didn't bother me that there was no wood for a fire, the tea from the gas cooker was warm enough.

A drink you couldn't live without?

Water. Water. But without coffee and beer, many things would also be difficult.

What's your favourite café to get away from your cup of coffee?

I won't tell you, otherwise it'll be overcrowded again, like everywhere else in Zurich.

Where did you discover this cup?
At a flea market in Vienna with my best friend. Luckily there were two of them, so we were able to take one each. They are friendship mugs, if you like.

Why is it your all-time favourite?
There are three reasons: A) Pink, B) massively ornate and C) because it reminds me of my girlfriend.

Best moment with the mug?
I don't know if this counts, but a few weeks after our stay in Vienna, my birthday was coming up. When I opened my friend's present, four more mugs were smiling at me. She had actually found the same ones again at another flea market in Switzerland. Now I have a set of them.

A drink you couldn't live without?

Black tea.

What's your favourite café to enjoy your cup of tea in?At the Coffee Lounge in Kreuzlingen.

I didn't "discover" the mug, it was a gift from a silent visitor who remained almost as invisible as the people on the ceramic. A former schoolmate of my wife, a professional musician with Finnish roots and allergies to almost everything in life. That's why he even brought his own bread - and three of these mugs from Marimekko as a souvenir. A cursory glance reveals just a few lines, but a closer look reveals an entire street scene and plenty of room to re-imagine what's happening. For me, cappuccino belongs in it, a white frothy milk crown suits her best. And when it's Saturday morning, it doesn't get much better than that. If I ever leave the cup for another one, I'm drawn to the dark side - to Cafe Noir.

Where did you discover this mug?
On the desk of Simon. He wanted to have an office mug that nobody would steal. Well, his plan didn't work out. Instead, he is now the proud owner of a Prince William & Kate wedding mug.

Why is it your all-time favourite?
I think it's ugly, but the dog on the mug looks like my Pomeranian puppy Finn.

Best moment with the mug?
When I completed the mug swap with Simon.

A drink you couldn't live without?
Cappuccino with lots of (sweet!) cocoa powder.

What's your favourite café to enjoy your cup in?In summer, my favourite place to sit is in the pretty courtyard of Milchbar near Paradeplatz. Incidentally, the best coffee in town - unfortunately only "to go" - is at ViCafe.

Where did you discover this cup?
In probably the most exclusive furniture store in the world: Ikea ;)

Why is it your all-time favourite?
I like the shape of the cup: it's simple and can hold more than an average cup thanks to its oversized design.

Best moment with the mug?
I've already had countless wonderful moments with it. That's why I even wash it by hand when it's in the dishwasher and get it right back when it gets lost in my flatmate's room.

A drink you couldn't live without?
Verveine tea with a little honey.

What's your favourite café to get away from your cup of tea?

It's usually any café at the railway station. But when I have a fling, I have coffee instead of tea so that I'm wide awake when I arrive at my destination after the train journey.

Where did you discover this cup?
At Interio.

Why is it your all-time favourite?
For me, the most important thing is that it is sensational to look at and comfortable to hold.

Best moment with the cup?
Early in the morning in the office, when no one is there yet and I'm enjoying the calm before the storm.

A drink you couldn't live without?
Fresh (!) peppermint tea.

What's your favourite coffee shop to get your cup out of the house? At the ViCafe on Rennweg.

And mine?

I came across my mug while window shopping and was enchanted by it: it's from the Zurich label "enSoie" and is handmade in Warsaw. The eye "drinks" with me. That's why I particularly like the gold-glazed rim and the Vichy pattern, which is usually only found on textiles. It is perfect for a double espresso from my coffee machine. My highlight with it was when I bought a portafilter machine for the first time and let the coffee out like a "real" barista. With it, I can almost make a flat white - the drink I no longer want to do without. The benchmark for a masterful coffee is set by the café around the corner from me: MAME may be on Josefstrasse in Zurich, but it always makes me feel like I'm abroad because the guests come from all over the world.
