Use display cases to keep refreshing your decor

Beautifully decorated shop windows catch our eye as if by magic. It’s an effect you can also replicate at home.

For a room to be tasteful and cosy, it’s not enough to just have pretty things lying around. Your items need to be staged properly. Styling pros have been wise to this for a long time, using small display cases to highlight objects so well they’d almost tempt you into window shopping in your own home.

The interior design team at furniture manufacturer Hübsch puts objects such as vases and books into display cases. This frames them like photos, allowing them to stand out better. Not to mention two additional bonuses: they make everything look tidier and the glass protects your treasures from dust and dirt.

The shop window trick is easy to copy. Get yourself a small display case or repurpose a lantern, then place selected pieces inside it. If you’re displaying several objects, you should take the proportions into consideration. Place small objects in the foreground and larger ones behind, spreading them out like you would blobs of paint on a canvas. You can also get display cases made of opal glass or with tinted windows. They reinforce a calm image, but are see-through nonetheless. Plus, they provide the room with varied reflections of light.

The more valuable the item, the better the fit for a display case.
