Turn your jeans from casual to dressy with these 7 tips

Jeans are considered causal – but they can be so much more. Elevate your denim look with these styling hacks.

One of the most important styling skills to have is to know how to tone your clothes up or down. Why? Because it lets you tap into the full potential of your wardrobe. And jeans are no exception. Although they’re usually associated with a relaxed, casual look, they’re actually true all-rounders. With these seven tips, you can easily transform your denim look into an elegant and evening-ready outfit.

1. High-quality fabrics

Invest in jeans made from high-quality, sturdy denim with as much cotton and as little stretch as possible. Sure, they may need some breaking in at first, but they’ll look a lot classier. Distressed denim is currently back in fashion again, but it looks more casual than smart. To give your look a festive touch, you could opt for on-trend jeans with rhinestone or pearl embellishments.

2. Subtle washes

Dark denim tends to look more formal than lighter shades of blue. Bleached jeans with a used look are also more on the casual side. By contrast, indigo washes and raw denim as well as white and black jeans give off a particularly elegant vibe.

3. Elegant silhouettes

Choose a cut that’s both flattering and comfortable. Finding jeans that fit well and make you feel good is half the battle if you want to nail a great look. For a striking look, go for jeans with a flared, flowing silhouette and a wide or flared leg. If you prefer less flashy cuts, straight-cut jeans are a timeless alternative.

4. Heeled shoes

High heels, be it pumps, sandals or boots, are probably the easiest way to turn your jeans into evening wear. The combination of wide-leg jeans and tapered ankle boots, which make your legs look longer, is particularly attractive. If you don’t like wearing heels, you can dress up your jeans with loafers or dress shoes.

Upgrade your jeans by combining them with a smart top. These could be formal garments such as shirts and blouses or tops with sophisticated details such as draping, bows or off-the-shoulder necklines.
