Sales of treadmills have taken a running jump, with online retailer Galaxus reporting a year-on-year increase of 85 per cent for 2024. This sharp uptick in sales was especially pronounced in the second half of the year, and the trend’s showing no signs of stopping. Customers have already bought 64 per cent more treadmills this month compared to the same period last year.

During the pandemic, treadmills were selling like hot cakes. Demand then temporarily dipped in 2022, only to pick up again in the years that followed. And in 2024, it downright exploded. Treadmill sales made an impressive comeback, shooting up 85 per cent.

Running into the new year

This upward trend’s still going strong in 2025. By 23 January, Galaxus had already sold 64 per cent more treadmills than it did over the whole of January 2024. This makes them the sixth best-selling piece of sporting equipment of the year so far.

Looking at the data, we can assume a fair few people have gone into the new year with the resolution to live healthier, more active lives. Have you made a New Year’s resolution to exercise more? If you’ve resolved to take up jogging, do you prefer doing it outside or on the treadmill? Let us know in the comments.
