This tank top is so comfy, I want to keep it on forever

Super soft, great cut, sustainably produced: this vest from Zurich-based label Moi Basics has been one of my favourite items for around a year now. Here’s why I recommend buying it.

Tank tops are a universal basic – supposedly uncomplicated and available in almost every clothes shop. And yet, there hasn’t been a single vest that’s fully convinced me over the years. Countless are the models I’ve tried on and bought only to discard them again later. But almost exactly one year ago, the Zurich brand Moi Basics provided me with one that really got me excited.

Here’s the men’s equivalent.

Super soft fabric, great cut

What am I so excited about? The material. The fine rib fabric made from 88% modal (a fibre obtained from beech wood) and 12% elastane is incredibly soft and comfortable against the skin. Instead of creating unflattering ruffles, the top hugs the body’s curves like a glove. This means it doesn’t add bulk, which makes it ideal for outfits consisting of several layers. What’s more, it doesn’t ride up when you’re wearing it – an important point for me.

The undershirt also works really well when it’s in the foreground – worn under a cardigan, blazer or simply on its own on hot days. But it’s not just the fabric, but also the cut that’s won me over. So far, most undershirts I’ve tried have failed to fully hide bra straps or cups. But not this one. Although the fabric’s very fine, a bra in my skin colour barely shines through, even in the light-coloured version.

I now own both the white and black models and wear them to work, to bed and even to Pilates and yoga classes. Despite the delicate material, the tops are also very easy to care for. I machine wash them at 30 degrees and, so far, they haven’t lost their shape nor are they showing any signs of pilling.

Sustainability and quality have their price

So what’s the catch? Priced at 69 francs, the tank top’s expensive. However, the price is justified by the high quality and fair, sustainable production. The fabric’s made in Vorarlberg from the fibres of Austrian beech trees, sewn into tops by a family-run business on Lake Maggiore before it’s sent to the Moi Basics studio in Zurich. From there, the vests are packaged and delivered to customers without any plastic.

Moi Basics also has other items made from super-soft micromodal: men’s T-shirts, bralettes and various underpants for men and women.

In a nutshell

This tank top from Moi Basics has become a wardrobe staple for me – as a visible or invisible part of my outfit, at home relaxing or even for sports. Why? Because it looks and feels great.
