These skincare heroes make dry skin smooth again

Skincare is a time-consuming affair, especially when it comes to whole-body care. Here are five moisturising products that make sure the effort pays off.

Weleda Skin Food Body Butter

After a nice, long evening shower, my go-to moisturiser is Weleda’s Skin Food Body Butter. Or as I like to call it, «the spa in a jar». Its texture is both firm and airy at once, reminiscent of cream that’s been whipped for a long time. Once you’ve put it on, it clings to your skin like a velvety pair of stockings pulled up over your entire body – a real boon for very dry, itchy skin. You then wake up in the morning all soft. A nice plus? The fresh scent lasts on your skin for a surprisingly long time, mentally transporting you to a sun-drenched field of lavender and orange trees. Incidentally, my editorial teammate Laura Scholz says Weleda body butter is her favourite, too.

Johnson’s baby oil

You can never go wrong with a gentle baby oil. Johnson’s leaves a subtle sheen on the skin that, along with the floral powdery scent, dissipates after about an hour. Once that happens, you’re left with baby-soft, well-maintained skin. You get an even better result if you apply the light oil to wet skin directly after showering. If you want to take things up a notch for the summer, add some highlighter powder to the oil, give the bottle a good shake – and boom: you’ll be glowing! The only fly in the ointment is that the bottle’s pressure cap and opening make for inconvenient handling. That’s why I’ll be decanting the baby oil into a pump dispenser as soon as possible.

Mixa Panthenol Comfort Body Balm

My best friend recommended I get Mixa’s soothing balm. She keeps the handy pump dispenser on her coffee table, ready to rock – a smart move that I’ve since copied. If you see a product, you’ll use it regularly, especially if you’re sitting in front of the TV anyway. You can take your downtime and use it to do something good for yourself, such as creaming up your hands, feet or other parts of your body. The formula is enriched with panthenol and ten per cent vegetable glycerine. It’s also fragrance-free and suitable for babies, children and adults with very sensitive skin.

Phytomed base creme

After my last reflexology session, I asked my masseuse which oil she was using. Hoping to incorporate her secret weapon for soft skin into my skincare routine, I was inwardly betting on almond oil. Her answer took me by surprise. Pointing to a white 500-gramme jumbo jar, she said, «It’s not oil, it’s just this Phytomed base creme.» Well, it’s anything but sexy – and the packaging is just as basic as its contents. But I don’t mean that in a bad way. It’s no-frills; just pure, mild, odourless moisturiser, enriched with organic jojoba oil. As the name suggests, base cremes are a suitable base for mixing face and body care products tailored to your needs. In the case of Phytomed, however, my skin enjoys it even without additives such as essential oils. In terms of consistency, it’s somewhere between the more liquid Mixa balm and Weleda’s stiff butter.

Organic Aloe Vera Gel

My last recommendation is a bit of an outlier, but it definitely deserves a spot on this list. Korean brand Aromatica’s Organic Aloe Vera Gel might seem kind of boring at first, but I can assure you it’s not. After all, you can use it in a multitude of ways. For instance, you can use it to soothe your legs, armpits or pubic area after shaving. Or you can mix a few drops of moisturising oil into the gel and either use it as a face mask or apply it to particularly dry areas of the body. It’s also well suited as an alternative to shaving foam. Since the gel dries in super quickly, I use it on those days when there’s barely enough time to blink between applying the cream and getting dressed. That way, I can still moisturise my skin a little without sticking to my outfit right after.

At Galaxus, you’ll find over 80,000 beauty products – and more are on the way. That’s quite the picking. And why I like to regularly share my favourites – from a selection of both novelties and classics.

As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
