These are the 7 most important jeans trends for 2024

Timeless indigo blue, baggy jeans or sparkling embellishments? We bet there's something for you among these brand-new denim trends.
Timeless elegance. Formal everyday wear. Functional fashion. Oversized cuts. The blurring of the boundaries between menswear and womenswear. These are topics that have moved fashion in recent seasons - and are now clearly reflected in these seven major jeans trends for 2024.
1. dark indigo
From Valentino to Miu Miu and Helmut Lang - indigo jeans are the star denim colour in this year's collections. And rightly so: the dark wash looks as timeless as it is high-quality and is a true all-rounder. It enhances simple T-shirt and sneaker looks, but can also be easily integrated into formal outfits.

2 Formal details
If you want to further refine the sophisticated denim look, take a look at Gucci, Dries Van Noten or Peter Do. In their fashion shows for the current year, they showed jeans with details inspired by suit trousers. These include piped seams, waistbands and creases.

3. 90s baggy cut
The 90s-inspired jeans with a straight cut and loose fit have been a denim favourite for several seasons now. This remains the case for the time being, as shown by Prada, Proenza Schouler and Gauchere. Baggy straight leg jeans are super comfortable, can be styled both smart and relaxed and go just as well with trainers as they do with boots. If you prefer a timeless look, choose a discreetly loose-fitting model with a medium rise. Those who like to experiment with fashion can also opt for oversized and low-rise styles. The trousers can also be slightly too long so that the excess fabric rests on the shoe and creates creases.

4. wide legs
Wide-leg jeans have also benefited from the trend towards loose-fitting trousers for several seasons now. The model is still unstoppable. This year, it was seen at brands such as Stella McCartney, Etro and Sacai. In contrast to the 90s baggies, the leg is not straight but wider at the bottom. This is reminiscent of elegant styles such as Marlene trousers. In combination with high, tapered boots that elongate the silhouette, wide-leg jeans can look very elegant. The same applies here: they can be oversized.

5. washed-out denim
Many of the denim trends for 2024 revolve around giving the hard-wearing trousers a more chic image. Brands such as Paul Smith, Y/Project and Egonlab showed the antithesis of this in their fashion shows for this year's collections. Used-look washes, especially bleached denim with a green or brown tint, exude a rebellious flair. They are perfect for edgy streetwear or grunge looks.

6. sparkling embellishments
Statement jeans with appliqués such as rhinestones and pearls or elaborate glass bead embroidery were a highlight in this year's collections. Although embellished jeans are widely associated with femininity, this year they are a particularly exciting subject in the menswear collections - including Loewe, Gucci and MSGM.

7. functional elements
Cargo trousers have been named the most down-to-earth trend of 2023. This year, the enthusiasm for functional fashion is going into overtime and spilling over into denim. Brands such as Moschino, Schiaparelli and Dhruv Kapoor are using elements of work trousers such as cargo pockets, knee patches and eye-catching zips as fashionable elements for jeans. This is fitting - after all, jeans have their origins in workwear.
