Stylish inspiration: furniture and plants in harmony with the Majorelle garden
The aesthetic of the "Jardin Majorelle" in Marrakech is a unique blend of different styles. What characterises it and how it also creates breathtaking outdoor areas in this country.
The "Jardin Majorelle" is one of the most popular sights in Morocco. I have also been there once. I still remember that I couldn't get enough of all the vibrant colours, the cacti, the clay pots and the bright blue.
I was less impressed by all the selfie sessions of the tourists around me. However, that's part of it today and shows once again how successful the style of the garden is when everyone thinks it's worth photographing. That's why I would love to design my garden in the same way. But I don't have one. Until that changes, I'm still collecting initial ideas on how I could adopt the Majorelle style and sharing them with you - in the hope that you can implement them straight away.
Some of the features that make up the aesthetics of the garden are the botanical diversity, the artistically designed water features and fountains as well as vibrant colours. But what is really special is that the garden looks harmonious despite the variety of elements. It is therefore worth adopting three of the most important stylistic elements if you want to create a balanced and aesthetically pleasing outdoor area.
1. a bold but selective colour palette
The Majorelle garden is known for its rich colour palette, made up of greens, yellows and the dominant colour blue, known as "Majorelle blue". They appear in many elements such as vases, planters and buildings in the garden. But you will also find desaturated colours such as pink, ochre and terracotta. Limiting and repeating the same colours in this way creates a rounded overall picture. For this reason, opt for outdoor chairs or tables in Majorelle colours. They are guaranteed to be a bright spot - even in the summer rain. And, if possible, paint a house wall in Majorelle blue or terracotta. This will make the colourful furniture pop even more.
2. real green
Apart from green furniture or green decorations, living greenery is essential for the Majorelle look. This is because there are a variety of plant species in the garden. The following stand out particularly well (or are particularly common):
- Succulents: Cacti in various shapes and sizes are everywhere, especially in front of the blue studio.
- Bamboo: Several areas, especially the garden paths, are planted with bamboo that reaches metres high.
- Bougainvillea: These colourful, flowering shrubs provide accents here and there.
Whether you opt for these or other plants, it's important that you get as many green roommates as possible. Note: some of them should also be in flower pots so that you can copy the Majorelle aesthetic.
3. decorating
What also makes the Majorelle garden so magical are the many lovely details. Add decorative elements in the corresponding colours. For example, clay pots, awnings and sometimes something ornate like a mosaic pattern on the garden fence or tabletop. Artfully carved sculptures are also welcome, as long as they match the colour palette.
