Our highlights at ISPO 2017!
by Theresa Schieder
I was at the ISPO in Munich for Galaxus and had a look at what the manufacturers of sportswear and accessories will be bringing onto the market.
The ISPO Munich is an annual sports trade fair. With over 2,700 exhibitors, it is one of the largest sports fairs in the world. Among other things, topics from the fields of sports, outdoor, skiing, action, fashion and fitness are presented.
Ventrix insulation
VENTRIX is a synthetic insulation material developed by The North Face that has laser-cut ventilation slits. This technology is used in The North Face's mountain sports and hiking collection and is primarily integrated in areas where athletes sweat more. If the athlete is not moving, the vents remain closed and the heat is kept close to the body. During movement, they open, allowing increased breathability and thus regulating body temperature.
Steep Series
With the new Steep Series FuseForm Brigandine jacket plus matching trousers, the next generation of high-end clothing for skiing and snowboarding has been introduced. Using a special weaving process, thicker, more durable threads can be woven together with thinner, lighter fibres in areas subject to heavy wear. This means significantly fewer seams and reduced weight at the same time.
Running apparel and shoes
Here The North Face showed the extremely lightweight Hyperair GTX® jacket with the new Shake-Dry technology, which has the membrane on the outside, and the Ultra MT Winter trail running shoes. The Flight-Series running clothing line gets an update with new technical refinements and fresh colours.
To the entire The North Face range
Snow Tour helmet
The new Snow Tour helmet has been specially developed for ski touring and splitboarding. It weighs just 330g and fulfils both the ski and mountaineering standards. The helmet also offers a special headlamp attachment for night ski tours.
New design lines Lumberjack & Periwinkle Storm
Alpina comes up with new style combinations of ski goggles and helmet. For men, there is the rugged lumberjack style combined with chequered patterns.
The "Periwinkle Storm" collection for women is intended to evoke the last light of the evening sun with its combination of purple, blue and white.
New Astro Pro sleeping bag
The Astro Pro sleeping bag is equipped with elasticated chamber seams. The sleeping bag adapts to the body by stretching. The so-called "Thermo Stretch inside" also allows the down to fully develop its bulking power between the outer and inner shell. The sleeping bag
should therefore warm up particularly quickly.
The PowerBox is also new: The down is evenly distributed thanks to the integrated longitudinal chambers in the lower leg area. This should keep the toes comfortably warm.
Rise series
Many winter sports enthusiasts have long sworn by the Deuter Rise as a reliable backpack for ski tours and snowshoe hikes. The classic has now been completely revamped. The result is both a lightweight day tour version and a robust model that is also suitable for winter tours lasting several days. Both ski touring backpacks are also available in the SL version, adapted to the female anatomy.
Terradora collection
New styles have been added to the Keen Terradora collection, which was launched at the beginning of 2017. All models in the Terradora collection have been carefully designed with women's biomechanics in mind. For example, a lower rear shaft height offers more freedom of movement and additional padding cushions protect the sensitive Achilles tendon. The resulting comfort is noticeable as soon as you slip them on. The instep area has a narrower design and provides more support and stability on mountain trails.
In addition to the tried-and-tested Terradora WP with lightweight mesh, two new styles will be launched on the market from autumn/winter 2017. One is the Terradora Leather WP with an upper made from a sophisticated and water-repellent nubuck leather.
The second new variant is the Terradora Pulse Mid WP with durable, water-repellent synthetic material.
All versions of the shoe are equipped with the KEEN.Dry® membrane, which provides breathable moisture protection in all weather conditions.
Westward Mid Leather WP
As part of the Trailhead Collection, the Westward is a tried and tested shoe. It is still also available in canvas synthetic fabric. From autumn/winter 2017, however, it will be available for the first time as a nubuck leather boot with a waterproof and breathable KEEN.Dry® membrane for even more protection and comfort. The Westward is just as at home on the mountain as it is in an urban environment.
It should be emphasised here that the shoes are all made in Europe. Very unusual for a company from the USA.
Inspired by the Engadine
Mammut feels at home in the Alps - where the wind whistles around your ears in sub-zero temperatures, where untravelled, snow-covered steep slopes await and the strenuous climb to the summit is rewarded with views of mountain panoramas and valleys. With the "Inspired by Engadin" collection, Mammut is now dedicating an entire collection to the topic of "outdoor lifestyle" for the first time.
A particular highlight of the collection is the Mammut Alvra ML Pull merino jumper. It is made in Switzerland and can be produced seamlessly from a single yarn without any leftover material thanks to special knitting machines. The merino wool is sourced from Australia from a producer who guarantees species-appropriate animal husbandry. All this, coupled with the Swiss production site, makes the Alvra ML Pull one of the highlights of the new Mammut collection.
Flip Removable Airbag 3.0
The new Flip Airbag backpack from Mammut weighs less than 2kg, making it one of the lightest avalanche backpacks on the market. Access to the main compartment is particularly practical: the rucksack can be opened from the top and from the back. The Flip offers numerous attachment options for skis and snowboards. The airbag system can also be easily removed so that the rucksack can also be used for hiking.
ABS comes up with the new P.Ride system, whose airbag offers an even larger surface area than before. The increased surface area is designed to provide more buoyancy in an avalanche. Several backpacks can now be linked together and triggered simultaneously via radio.
The Alpride system from Scott has also been redeveloped. The system is now integrated into the side of the rucksack, providing more storage space than the competition. The backpacks are available in two sizes (30L and 20L) and offer a variety of well thought-out attachment options.
fēnix 5
Garmin won the ISPO Gold Award with the fēnix 5 series. The new high-end GPS multisport model not only comes with new functions, but also in three different sizes.
The two small versions, the fēnix 5 and the fēnix 5S, now also fit narrower wrists with sizes of 42 mm and 46 mm respectively. The top model, the fēnix 5X, is larger at 51 mm, but offers a map view on the display.
In all variants, the integrated heart rate measurement on the wrist ensures maximum wearing comfort: the sensor is integrated flush into the steel case back and is not noticeable when worn.
Fashion-conscious athletes with slim wrists will be particularly pleased with the new fēnix 5S. With a much slimmer design, it offers the same functions as the fēnix 5 and, despite its compact dimensions and stylish everyday design, surprises with concentrated sports and navigation functions, as well as many smart features.
The fēnix 5X, on the other hand, is designed for outdoor enthusiasts: pre-installed outdoor and bike maps provide an optimal overview. However, the robust and stable design makes this watch slightly larger than the other two variants. The new Garmin watches will be available from April 2017.
The Casio Pro Trek WSD-F20, a new waterproof smartwatch, was also of interest. It runs on Android Wear 2.0 and features energy-saving GPS and a new colour map functionality. These maps can also be used offline. With the new location memory app, special viewpoints can be easily found again. The Casio WSD-F20 will be released in April 2017.
The new sports glasses from UVEX are sure to impress technology enthusiasts in particular. The lens can be darkened at the touch of a button. This is made possible by a rechargeable battery integrated into the glasses. This controls liquid crystals in the lens and automatically adjusts the colour and brightness. Unfortunately, this cool function is also reflected in the price.
Already as a child I spent every free day in nature and roamed through the woods. In the meantime I have grown up, but the love for nature has remained. On my blog OUTCOZO I write about everything that has to do with outdoors and I want to share my adventures with the readers. From glacier tours to freeride descents, from mountain bivouacs to equipment testing, everything is included. The main thing is "Outside the couch zone".
