Pumpkin DIY for those in a hurry

It's not too late for autumn decorations! With a few simple steps, you can turn a few pumpkins into into chic flower pots. You can do this before the shops are completely filled with Christmas decorations.
I missed autumn a little this year. A long holiday, but also the warm temperatures, meant that I didn't celebrate this beautiful time of year enough. The many pumpkins in shops and fields were a painful reminder of this. Time to take the initiative to complete at least one more project.
Preparation
This super simple DIY turns decorative or edible pumpkins into flower pots. Your home or outdoor area will be ready for autumn in no time at all. Let's enjoy the golden season a little longer before Advent wreaths and Christmas baubles are hanging everywhere!
All you need for this are:
- Pumpkins of your choice
- Small plants (for me succulents)
- A kitchen knife
- A spoon
- Possibly a little extra potting compost

Everything has to go
As I'm doing this little project at the dining table, I first need some newspaper as a base. Otherwise, I'll lose the joy of my decorations when I'm still scraping pumpkin remnants off the table half an hour later. The next step is to use the knife, because the pumpkin needs a hole. The easiest way for me to do this is to cut a deep hexagon shape. The lid can then be easily removed.

This is not the end of the story, as the pumpkin seeds are still inside the vegetables. Grab the spoon and scoop out the pumpkin. This should be easy. If you use edible pumpkins, you don't even have to throw away the insides, at least the seeds. Roast them in the oven and you have a wonderful snack.

Autumn decorations in 30 minutes
So the pumpkins are now half hollow and ready to be filled with my succulents. Yes, I've actually already reached the last step. Depending on how well your plant fills the pumpkin, you may need to use a little extra soil. This is the case with the largest of the three pumpkins. With the smallest, however, I even had to enlarge the hole a little.

Once all the plants are in place, your homemade pumpkin pots are ready. Now you just need to find a nice spot to display and admire the decorations. The whole thing took me half an hour, without shopping. It could hardly be quicker or easier, could it?
