How to keep your linens lovely for longer
by Stephanie Vinzens
Less is more seems to be the best motto when temperatures are high. What counts is not necessarily that you wear less, but what you wear at all.
The following scenario: the sun is beating down, it's hot and you're dripping with sweat. How nice would it be to wear something on your body that doesn't store moisture between the fabric and your skin, but instead releases up to 35 per cent of it to the outside? It sounds almost too good to be true - but it's actually possible. Thanks to linen.
The fabric made from the fibres of the flax plant ticks all the boxes you could wish for in summer:
The last point is of particular benefit to those who sweat particularly quickly and fear being let down by their deodorant. But where bacteria are kept in check, there is also less unpleasant body odour.
Another advantage of linen garments is the fact that they are hardly ever tight and figure-hugging. Fabric that sticks to the body? No such thing. Instead, linen is airy and casual, leaving room for cool breezes and refreshing draughts.
If, despite all the breathability and freedom from bacteria, it's time for a wash, there are a few things you should bear in mind. Hands off the tumble dryer, for example (risk of shrinkage!) - you can read the rest of the tips in this guide from my colleague Stephanie.
