This detail makes every jacket look stylish
by Stephanie Vinzens

Thin, mid-layer are a secret weapon in winter. But need it always be the hyped Light Down Jacket from Uniqlo? Not if these seven alternatives have anything to say.
Those really thick jackets that make it hard to bend your arms or hug yourself to keep warm aren’t quite coming out yet. Some of you may have moved yours to the front of the wardrobe, ready to be put to use. But like keeping an ace up your sleeve, you’re probably saving them for the blistering cold. The days when temperatures plummet and stay in the negative.
Until that happens, your best bet is to wear layers to keep warm. Uniqlo’s Light Down Jacket has become a real favourite and bestseller for that purpose in recent years. It’s lightweight, insulating, water-repellent and can be folded up into a handy size. The price tag is attractive at around 75 francs. What’s more, and this is why it’s so popular, its thin design makes it perfect to wear under a blazer, wool coat or even a large sweater. An extra layer that’s virtually invisible and keeps you warm at the same time? No wonder everyone’s after it! So what’s the catch? It’s not available in these parts.

No need for chattering teeth or reaching for the thickest jacket in your wardrobe just yet. After all, there are great alternatives out there. Some of them may be a little more expensive than Uniqlo’s, but they’ll keep you just as warm and serve you just as well as a thin, toasty layer. And that’s all that matters, right?
