Here comes your lipstick’s new (secret) BFF <3

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when I say «highlighter»? Luminous cheekbones? Or perhaps a shimmering tip of the nose? For me, it’s fuller lips.

Highlighters emphasise the raised parts of your face. Shimmer powder is typically used wherever the light or sun hits your face first. The shimmer particles in the product then reflect this light. The usual areas recommended are: the cheekbones, nose bridge, tip of the nose and the highest point under the eyebrows. But there’s one place that’s captured my face to a new level and that deserves to be added to the list.

Small trick, big effect

A little highlighter on and above the Cupid’s bow is a pro tip you hear from time to time. Meanwhile, I go one step further and (additionally) put a dab in the middle of my upper and lower lip. This brings more movement to the look, which also makes the lips look fuller.

Can you see the effect? Here I’m wearing the Vanilla Highlighter by Ere Perez over my lipstick.

The highlight effect really comes into its own here:

  • Under lip gloss: Dab some highlighter onto your bare lips with your fingertip and blend lightly. Brush a lip gloss over it and you’ll see the transparent formula shine even more intensely.
  • Over lipstick: Apply lipstick first. Then use the highlighter to accentuate the middle, using the same dabbing and blending motion as above. This will make the middle of your lip look lighter, creating a 3D effect.

Whether powder, cream or liquid, you can basically work with any form of highlighter. I personally prefer the creamy versions as they blend particularly well with the rest of your make-up. My favourite’s the Vanilla Highlighter from the natural cosmetics brand Ere Perez in the shade «Falling Star». It has a rather waxy, nourishing texture and was recommended by make-up artist Sophia Singh.

Sometimes it’s the details that make or break a hairstyle or make-up look. In my Blazing Beauty Tips series, I share useful techniques with you that I’ve either learned through my own experience or copied from the pros.

As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
