For a small budget: the alternative to Fenty Beauty's Gloss Bomb

Hyped beauty products don’t always fit the budget. That’s why I’m shining a spotlight on cheaper alternatives, or dupes, that do the job just as well. Up today: Rihanna's Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb in «Fu$$y».

Fenty Beauty’s Gloss Bomb is one of my favourite lip gloss formulas ever. It’s not sticky, makes the lips look full and provides better nourishing than many lipbalms. It’s so nourishing that a friend of mine even applies it before she goes to bed. I can’t blame her.

Yet, this lip gloss costs 25 francs. And so far, I’ve been convinced it’s worth every cent. But then I came across a more affordable alternative: the Maybelline Lifter Gloss. «03 Moon» is particularly close to one of my favourite Fenty's shades, «Fu$$y». It’s a shimmery antique pink that looks great if you pair it with both warm and cool undertones.

Yes, Maybelline's product looks a bit like those from Kim Kardashian's shelved KKW Beauty line. The actual lip gloss, however, is very similar to «Fu$$y». I promise.

The so-called doe foot applicators – they resemble the hoof of a female deer – look confusingly similar.

In comparison, the gold-silver shimmer content, base shade, and wearability are almost identical. Even the applicators are like identical twins in terms of shape and format. So where are the differences? In packaging, perfuming and price. While Fenty is subtly fruity, Maybelline has gone for coconut. And Maybelline's product costs half as much as Fenty's.

*In the world of beauty, «dupes» refer to cheaper products that are as similar as possible in terms of colour, texture and finish to expensive, high-end or luxury products.

As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
