We're reopening our stores on 11 May. Our safety concept won't win a design award, that's for sure, but looks are secondary: making sure our customers and employees are safe is our top priority. Daniel Lehmann, Head of Retail, talks us through the key aspects of the reopening.

After eight long weeks, we’re finally able to open our eleven stores again. From Monday on, we’re happy to welcome you again within our usual opening hours. We've done a lot to ensure everyone is protected: barrier tapes guide the queues in some stores and points of sale are separated with plexiglass boxes, screens or curtains. We've given them the nickname «shower curtains». In addition, no products are on display until further notice to avoid unnecessary virus sources.

Daniel Lehmann, Head of Retail, has answered our most burning questions:

Is the option «Collection at a digitec store» available again for online shoppers?
Yes, it will be available again starting Sunday afternoon.

Are customers required to wear a mask?
No, this isn’t a requirement for customers. Our employees may decide themselves whether they want to wear a mask or not. They’re also protected by plexiglass partitions.

Can I take warranty cases to the stores again as usual?
Yes. We do, however, kindly ask customers with returns or warranty cases to register them online in advance and take the printed receipt with them. This makes sure waiting times are as short as possible. Nevertheless, especially during peak times, we’re expecting longer waiting times, as we’re not able to open all the cash registers and are working with slightly reduced capacity.

Is there disinfectant in the stores?
Yes, disinfectant is available for everyone at the entrance and exit.

What about gloves?
Gloves won’t be available.

Are there any restrictions as to which products can be collected in the stores?
No. However, the restrictions for very large and/or heavy products, which have always been in place, still apply.

Are you expecting lots of customers in the first few days?
Yes, far fewer returns were sent to our location in Dintikon while our stores were closed, so we’re expecting loads of returns and warranty claims. We recommend customers to arrive no later than 15 minutes before the store closes, as we’re expecting many customers, especially in the first week.

Is flash delivery for the city of Zurich available again?
Yes, we’ve reactivated flash delivery. In the first few weeks, however, the volume is limited due to lower capacity.

Can I pay in cash?
Yes, we accept cash payments as before the lockdown, but recommend all customers to pay by card if possible.

Of course, the BAG guidelines, to which we strictly adhere, apply at all times.

I'm passionate about my job as a PR story writer. I've always been fascinated by advertising, magazines and media products of all kinds – from trashy Britney to highly intellectual Judith Butler. When I'm not at work, I enjoy spending time sharpening my critical view of society and deconstructing clichés. Nothing's more unneccessary to me than falling back into outdated role models again and again.
