Stacking loot with Lego: Galaxus customers rake in cash with resales
by Alex Hämmerli
Is there stuff you no longer need lying around your home? Time to declutter and make hard cash! All it takes is a few clicks.
After six successful years, we recently added a number of new features to our resale platform. Why? Because we’re convinced that buying and selling secondhand items is more than just an alternative to buying new – it’s win-win for everyone. If you’re selling, you can turn your things into cash; and if you’re buying, you can snag yourself high-quality items at bargain prices. Either way, you’ll be doing good for your budget and the environment.
The online shops Galaxus and Digitec each register over 20 million visits per month. And more than two million people in Switzerland buy from us at least once a year. This enormous reach makes selling through us particularly attractive
as your chances of finding a bargain or selling an item you haven’t used in ages are very high.
But it’s not just about profit, it’s also about eco-consciousness – an aspect younger shoppers in particular are very aware of (link in German).
In the early days, only 40 per cent of the items published on our resale platform were sold. High time to boost this number. By means of extensive analysis and user feedback, we’ve now further improved both the seller and buyer experience on our resale platform. The result? A platform that’s simpler, faster and more transparent to use.

Maybe you’re looking for a rare Lego set or a smartphone at a bargain price. Whatever you’re after, our platform has something for you. With the new and improved user interface, secondhand shopping just got even more sustainable and convenient.
What’s more, some of our customers have made a profit of 200 per cent or more on their resold items. Although these are exceptions, it goes to show that reselling pre-loved items pays off.
The run-up to Christmas is a great time to bump up your present budget by selling items you no longer need or shopping for secondhand items. The more people do this, the more we can bring down consumption of newly manufactured products. It’s a great way to shop sustainability by your own rules.
Personally, I find it very satisfying to know that a product has found a new home and will continue to be used.
If you’re giving someone a present, you can now include a digital purchase certificate. This gives the recipient full control, as the certificate makes it easier for the recipient to return a gifted item, register it for a warranty claim or resell it. After all, we’ve all received things we didn’t really want. So reselling is great news for everyone, not least the environment.
Do you like the idea of adding a digital purchase certificate to a gift, so that the recipient has full control over the warranty, return or potential resale of the gift?
The competition has ended.

Cool: Creating interfaces between the real world and the world of pure information. Not cool: Driving by car to the mall to shop. My life happens online, the information age is where I feel at home.
