Find the (almost) perfect pushchair for your needs

I'm still looking for the perfect pram today, because unfortunately every model has its downsides. I'll show you how you can still find one that suits you and your needs.

When we started looking for a pushchair a few years ago, we were completely overwhelmed. We didn't know which model we wanted or what our requirements were for the pushchair. In the end, we chose a robust pushchair from TFK with three pneumatic wheels, which is just as suitable for forest and meadow roads as it is for a walk on the tarmac. It is therefore correspondingly heavy and takes up a lot of space in the car. The second stroller was a model from Mountain Buggy and then a small, compact buggy that doesn't take up much space and that I can sling over my shoulder if necessary.

Needs analysis

Your child doesn't have the same requirements for a pushchair as you do. While your child wants to lie or sit comfortably, you may place more value on the practical features. Think carefully about what the pushchair needs to offer before you buy it. This way, you can avoid any additional investments. Here are a few questions to help you narrow down your search:

  • Do you prefer a particular brand?
  • What features should the pushchair have? (Large shopping basket, height adjustment of the handle, brakes, cup holder, adjustment of the backrest or footrest, possibility of fitting a second seat or a Babyschale, etc.)
  • Where are you mostly out and about? (forest, meadow, city, etc.)
  • How many children do you want to transport with the pushchair?
  • What age of child do you want to cover?
  • Is it a first or second car?
  • Does it need to be transported often? Then weight, size and folding dimensions are important.
  • Would you like to use it for jogging or sports?
  • Do you want three or four wheels?
  • What is your budget?
  • How design-savvy are you?
  • What colour should the car be?

By answering these questions, you can narrow down the pushchair range using the filters on the left-hand side, making it easier for you to decide. You also have the option to narrow down the range using, for example, the reviews, the price or the availability.

Pram types

Buggy
Buggies can usually be folded up like an umbrella and therefore have a compact folding size. Ideal for travelling or the city. Can be used from the sixth month.

First-time pushchair
First-time pushchairs are for newborns and are suitable from birth. They are usually offered as a set with a carrycot or you can buy them separately.

Sibling pushchair
Sibling pushchairs are for families with twins or more than one child. Depending on the model, you can attach the sports seat, the carrycot or both. However, there are also models for four or six children, which are ideal for families with multiples or a daycare centre.

Jogger
Joggers can be easily transported thanks to the large Lufträder gut auf forest and gravel paths. Some models are particularly suitable for sports.

Combi pushchair
Combi pushchairs usually include an infant car seat or carrycot for newborns in addition to the pushchair. Sometimes both are even included in the set. You can flexibly adapt a combi pushchair to the age of your child.

Shopper
Shoppers are special pushchairs that are primarily designed for city trips. A shopper is very manoeuvrable and lightweight and often offers more storage space than a buggy.

Travel system pushchairs
Travel system pushchairs are ideal if you are travelling a lot. This pushchair impresses with its quick adaptability and often includes the infant car seat in the scope of delivery.

By deciding on a pushchair type, you can already rule out a number of models. To refine your search, reduce the selection using the other filter properties such as area of use, number of wheels, brake type, colour and so on.

My four favourites

I bought my three prams some time ago. But I always find myself looking at the new models and wanting to buy them. If I were in the situation of having to choose a pushchair again, it would be one of these pushchairs. Practical, very comfortable for the child, flexible and yet beautiful to look at. Well, I'll be honest, the design plays a bigger role for me with pushchair number 4 than the practical idea and my needs.

#1: The beautiful one
The model from Mountain Buggy scores points with me above all with its friendly appearance. Thanks to the sprung rear wheels, you can get around just as well on bumpy paths as on tarmac roads. The scope of delivery includes a cup holder, a shopping basket, a sun canopy and a matching changing bag with changing mat. The carrycot unfortunately has to be purchased separately for this pushchair. I already own the black version and, apart from the brakes, I am satisfied.

#2: The versatile one
The "Viper 4" is versatile, robust and made for outdoor excursions. Thanks to its pneumatic wheels, you can get anywhere effortlessly, safely and comfortably. According to the manufacturer, even forest and meadow paths are no problem for this model. The scope of delivery includes a leg cover, a canopy, a safety bar, the pushchair attachment and the carrycot, which has a softly padded Overnight Sleep mattress. With this model, you are well equipped for the first few years.

#3: The extendable
The Thule pushchair is rather expensive, especially as you have to buy the carrycot as an option. Nevertheless, it offers a high level of comfort for child and parents. An extendable sun visor with UV protection, a height-adjustable push bar, a large luggage basket, an adjustable reclining seat with a comfortable seat surfaceseat, a reversible seat (facing forwards or backwards) and the option to extend the pushchair for siblings are just a few of the features that speak in favour of the pushchair. #4: The twin
The dull, clunky models for multiples of yesteryear are a thing of the past. This pushchair is ideal for two children. Whether twins or children of different ages, you can flexibly adapt it to your current needs. The pushchair seat, sun canopy and safety bars are included. If you need one or two carrycots, you will need to purchase these separately. [[productlist:6418785]]
