The birth is approaching? Checklist for preparing your bag
by Myrtha Brunner
Will you be able to embrace your baby soon? Then get your first outfit with my checklist before the birth.
As soon as the little screamer is born, he rules the world. As a parent, you will reach your limits with the new situation and sometimes wish for the "old" days back. At least that's how it was for me. It's best to take care of the initial equipment before the birth and relieve yourself and your family in the early days. Print out our checklist and go through it step by step. You can find a list of everything you need for the hospital bag here:
When changing nappies, bathing or massaging, you give your baby the physical closeness they need through intensive skin contact. In addition to diapers and wetting wipes and a cosy changing mat. Especially in the winter months, the ambient temperature is too cold for your little one. There are special radiant heaters available for this purpose. In my opinion, it's not a must-have and I've never missed it myself. I carry my changing bag with me when I'm out and about. I recommend a diaper-bucket, especially for the summer months. This is because nappies take on unpleasant odours, especially on hot days.
The skin is the most important sensory organ and stores all tender experiences. For this reason, you should take enough time for body care. This includes not only skin care, but also hair, nails and teeth care.
For a wonderful bathing experience, even small bathtubs or bath seats for the large tub. The optimum water temperature is 37 degrees. For me, a bath thermometer is just as much a part of the initial equipment as a fever thermometer, nuggies, gauze nappies / nuscheli or a bath towel. And finally, don't forget your own nursing. If you're doing well, your baby will do well too.
Adapt your little one's wardrobe to the season. In summer, you need short and cool clothing. On hot days, a body is often sufficient. In spring, autumn and winter, however, opt for long and warmer clothes and use the onion look. This means putting trousers and top (alternatively a dress or skirt), over it a jacket or an overalls. In winter, use a snowsuit instead. Thanks to the layered clothing, you can quickly adapt to the ambient temperatures. To complete the outfit, all that's missing are the accessories such as a scarf, gloves and headgear.
Breastfeeding versus bottle and formula feeding. No matter which form you choose for you and your child, the following products are practical helpers for feeding your baby.
Breastfeeding
The advantage of breastfeeding is that you always have milk at the right temperature and in sufficient quantity. Thanks to its perfect composition, breast milk offers optimum protection against infections and allergies and is recommended by experts. There are several products such as nursing pillows, nursing pads, nursing bras and nursing shirts and dresses that support you while breastfeeding. For baby-free evenings, to relieve your nipples or when you return to work, the milk pump comes into its own. For me, the pump proved to be a great investment.
Bottle / formula feeding
There are women who do not want to or cannot breastfeed and therefore switch to bottle feeding. Initially, baby-bottle, bottle warmer and steriliser. As soon as you start with baby food, baby-food-preparer, baby food container, bibs and a highchair.
From my own experience, a simple bassinet or a co-sleeper. That's why you could tackle the nursery after the birth. For me, there are two good reasons against this: Furnishing the nursery increases the anticipation of having a baby. And you have more energy available for your baby during this intensive time. So why not tick off the "design nursery" item on your to-do list right away.
There are two options: You can choose a complete baby room or select all the furniture individually. This includes at least one changing unit and one baby bed. Note that with a baby cot, the mattress, baby bed textiles or Zewi blankets are not included in the scope of delivery. It's best to go through the whole baby-cot-accessories so that you don't forget anything. baby-shelf and children's wardrobe are optional in my opinion, as is baby bouncer and baby-toy. Whereby a baby bouncer can relieve you very well.
You have a free hand when it comes to accessories. A nightlight, a baby blanket and other decorations make the nursery look cosy.
I like travelling with my children and being prepared for all eventualities. This is exactly why I own a child seat, three strollers, a baby carrier, a carrycot, a travel cot and a changing bag. To this day, I have never regretted this investment. Whether I'm making my way through the urban jungle, going on holiday, shopping in the neighbouring town or taking a walk through the woods, these products allow me to adapt to the situation at hand.
In the first few weeks, a baby monitor is all you need to keep an eye on your child because they can neither crawl nor walk. I use the nursing cushion as a small protective wall for the baby. As motor skills progress and the urge to move increases, you should take additional measures to make the household childproof. In particular, safety gates for stairs and the bed and the corresponding childproofing (e.g. for sockets, plants, cooker, etc.) are essential in my opinion. As soon as you take part in loud events, appropriate hearing protection is a must from birth.
