Do it yourself - customised jars

Looking for a simple DIY project? I've got just the thing for you. How about turning a jar into an animal focal point? I tried this project with two office colleagues. Take a look at the result.

How to do it:
Step 1: prepare
Buy some canning jars, a can of spray paint and some small animal figurines. We chose to do this project with three 1l jars each. The lids of our jars have a diameter of 86 mm. We chose figurines to match the size of the lid. If you still have old jam jars at home or figurines that belonged to your children, these also work well.
Set up somewhere or you can use the spray paint can. We opted for the terrace, so outside, as it's not advisable to breathe in paint fumes. Work on a flat surface and protect it with cling film or similar.

Step 2: paste
Glue the figurines onto the jar lids and leave to dry. Depending on the brand, the glue needs more or less time to dry. Don't lift the jar by holding it by the figurine - the animals aren't strong enough to be able to carry the weight of the 1l glass, but they fulfil their decorative role perfectly.
Step 3: paint
Using the spray can, paint the lid and figurine in the colour of your choice. We've gone for gold. Make sure you spread the paint evenly and don't forget hard-to-reach places like the bellies of the animals. It's advisable to work with several thin coats until you get the coverage you want. Once the lid and figure have been painted, leave them to dry overnight.

Step 4: fill the jars
You can fill the jars with muesli, dried fruit, tea or coffee powder. I put sweets in them. Depending on the size of the jars, you can of course also use them for pet food, pens or whatever. We also made a special dog food jar with a little dog standing guard on top.
You can let your creativity run wild. For example, you can use figurines received in chocolate eggs and, as well as paint, use nail varnish to decorate. So you can personalise these jars to your heart's content. They're ideal for giving to loved ones.
