Current hype in fashion: half-on half-off

In fashion, one trend follows the next. This time, even though I've already seen a few, I have to turn up my nose. The "half-dressing look" is currently back on the streets ahead of the fashion shows for the 2018 spring collections and is making us wonder: what do we really think of it?

In addition to the questionable half-naked or bra-over-shirt trend, which stars such as Kendall Jenner or fashion bloggers such as Pernille Teisbaek diligently cultivate, this one also joins the ranks. All three styles have one big goal in common - to stand out.

Being half dressed and half undressed has an infectiously casual effect. That's why the hype has made it from the street to the catwalks. Last year, Balenciaga celebrated the attitude of being too cool to dress "properly" with an entire collection - and I'll tell you why. The style suggests that, à la #Iwokeuplikethis - in German, "I got up like this" - morning, you didn't have to put any effort into your look at all. As an advocate of style, you're so busy that you can't even think about something like tucking your shirt in properly. As your mum no longer does this either and you don't always have your stylists around, you don't fasten zips or buttons yourself.

In keeping with the motto "too cool for school", the trend is also part of a luxurious lifestyle. In the everyday life of a "half-dressing" follower, functionality is perhaps less of a priority. After all, freedom of movement without clothes constantly sliding around on the body is usually overrated ;)

Why not actually? Good reasons that speak in favour of the look

  • We have time for more important things in life
  • We're never too hot or too cold
  • We can show just enough skin in the current temperatures
  • We look effortlessly cool.
  • We no longer take our clothes off and have everything on us at all times.

Admit it. I also prefer to wear my pink coat loosely over my shoulders in autumn rather than fully tucked in. It then acts like an extra shoulder pad and gives me a feeling of strength. Sounds silly, but I like it and it reminds me of the Superman cape that sways dramatically in the wind with every step. Another thing that makes me like the "half-dressed look" is the fact that each of us already has one of the building blocks for it in our wardrobe. Whether it's a hoodie, blouse or bomber jacket - these simple rules will get you up to speed:

  • Put your head alone without arms in the jumper
  • Or, alternatively, slip into just one of two sleeves and let the other one hang out casually like Bella Hadid and Kendal Jenner.
  • Instead of putting on the jacket, just throw it over your shoulder -
  • or alternatively just wear it over the forearms.
  • Leave the top of the blouse or shirt open enough so that the shoulders can still remain free.
  • Only fasten one strap of your braces or dungarees
  • Only partially tuck your shirt into your trousers or don't zip it up at all like blogger Jermaine R.
  • ... Can you think of any more ideas? Your input is very welcome in the comments :)
