Crack open your bottles in style
New solutions to an old problem – how to open a bottle of beer, wine or champagne? These stunning new designs have definitely caught my eye.
The image that first comes to mind when you think of bottle openers might be similar to mine: the classic old-fashioned design featuring a metal bracket for support, a curb to hook onto and a wooden handle to hold onto. «Bottle Uncapping Tool» was the name of this design, which was patented by Alfred Louis Bernardin in 1893. «Capped Bottle Opener» was the name of William Painter's version. In the meantime, a lot has happened on the market and there are a wide range of bottle opening systems and designs. Some look like a swimming ring; others look like a bell; and some don't look remotely like a bottle opener. Let's shed some light on the matter:
For corks

Have you ever tried to get out of someone's way who was about to open a cork bottle by hand? I hope it worked! Intentional or not – being hit by a cork is painful. That's why there are bottle openers made of metal, silicone or wood that slow down by turning.
For caps

Beer bottles might look less attractive despite their colourful labels, but cap lifters are real eye-catchers with their look or even additional functions. Models such as «Bob» by Kiboni are suitable for corks and caps. «Bell» by Normann Copenhagen doubles as a bell. Last rounds!
