10 gift ideas for sports enthusiasts

Want to make someone happy? Or treat yourself? Here are ten gift ideas for sport and fitness folk that are also fun to use indoors.

For some, the festive period is a time for resting and relaxing, for others it’s the perfect opportunity to crack on with the new sports season. If your loved ones are the sporty kind, here are ten presents that could give them that extra bit of motivation.

For a quick start to new year’s resolutions

Want to treat someone who has little time on their hands and prefers to train at home? Here are some ideas for their home gym.

The Indiana balance board made of oak also looks good in the living room and trains balance and stability. The small muscles in your torso have to work really hard. If the roller’s on the easier side of things for you, Indiana also offers a hemisphere that’ll challenge your balance in a new way.

It may not look very Christmassy, but a weighted vest is one of the most versatile pieces of sports and fitness equipment around. It levels up your workout when walking or jogging. If you do exercises using your own body weight, such as squats or push-ups, this’ll increase the difficulty level. It’s more than ideal for anyone wanting to increase their fitness during the Christmas period.

A door frame pull-up bar is a good solution for fitness fans who want to train effectively every now and then, without much effort. The Athletic Pro model is quick to attach and remove. It’s also suitable for abdominal muscle and tricep exercises.

The Unitree Fitness Pump Pro cable pulley is versatile, small and easy to store after training. With it – or even better with two of the battery-operated mini devices – you can transform an ordinary room into a home gym. I [tested] the cable pulley(/page/beine-arme-rumpf-und-ruecken-mit-der-unitree-pump-bist-du-am-zug-31191) and was impressed.

For recovery

Is your secret Santa someone who sometimes overdoes it? Recovery boots that massage your legs with air pressure provide the ultimate kind of relaxation. They increase blood circulation and reduce fatigue. After their workout, athletes can relax with the air boots on their legs and look forward to the next session.

If you need something smaller, the Therabody Minigun might be a suitable gift for others or yourself. Massage guns relieve tension. They’re one of my go-to recovery tools.

Blackroll’s Recovery Slopes promise to give your feet and calves a good relax. The heel of the sandals is lower than the forefoot to counteract tension in the calves and compensate for possible overloading. I wear the shoes after training or on leisurely days at home. While it doesn’t have a huge effect, I appreciate the relief and how comfortable they feel, for example after long running sessions.

Making exercise playful – that’s what the fitness dice are all about. You decide which exercises come next so you can mix up your workout. The dice are particularly good motivators for when you’re travelling and when you’re lacking the enthusiasm to train.

Alternatively you could immerse yourself in beautiful running landscapes, especially when everything outside’s cold and grey. The 100 Runs of a Lifetime may not be suitable for replicating, but they’re a perfect source of ideas for similarly beautiful and natural runs in your local surroundings.
