1. Crowned Heads Juarez Willy Lee Toro

The guys and gals at Crowned Heads have teamed up with the (still) relatively unknown Tabacalera Pichardo in Esteli, Nicaragua, to develop a more affordable cigar line. The idea behind this was to create a cost-effective alternative to the already established and very popular Jericho Hill cigars. Tabacalera Pichardo is now the fourth Tabacalera that Crowned Heads has collaborated with. So far, all Crowned Heads cigars have been produced either at Ernesto Perez-Carrillo Jr.'s Tabacalera La Alianza S.A. in the Dominican Republic or by My Father Cigars S.A. (Don Pepin Garcia) and Jonathan Drew's Drew Estate in Nicaragua.

The cigars in this line feature a Mexican San Andrés wrapper, an Ecuadorian Sumatra binder, and filler tobaccos from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. Charlie Minato, a colleague from the blog Halfwheel.com in the USA, describes the flavor as follows: "Dijon mustard, floral, a bit of onion powder, and some crushed peanuts." Harmonious, with a slight natural sweetness and no prominent pepper or bitterness, they are very pleasant, mild companions for any time of day.

Crowned Heads is a relatively young boutique brand but has already made a very good name for itself in the cigar world. This is largely thanks to Jon Huber and his co-founder Mike Conder, who tirelessly refine quality, flavor, and consistency with a unique passion. The cigars are produced in renowned factories in Nicaragua.

Cigar exterior: shiny surface, textured veins
Cigar interior: medium-firm rolling
Smoke: full-bodied smoke volume
Flavor: coffee, toast, earth, wood, nut, spice

2. Crowned Heads Four Kicks Corona Gorda

The cigar brand "Four Kicks" was founded in 2011 by former employees of the CAO brand, which is now part of the publicly traded Scandinavian Tobacco Group (STG). The four founders introduced their first line to the U.S. market. They may have been inspired by the song of the same name by Kings of Leon for the series name, which addresses themes of loyalty and perseverance. The wrapper, a Sun Grown from Ecuador, as well as the binder and filler, all come from Nicaragua.

The inspiring story behind the "Four Kicks" cigars

Production takes place at the Tabacalera La Alianza, led by renowned industry expert Ernesto Perez-Carillo (EPC Cigars). These are medium-bodied cigars with pronounced woody and leathery notes. As always, Ernesto stands for impeccable craftsmanship.

3. Crowned Heads Le Patissier No. 50 Maduro

Le Patissier is a cigar line from Crowned Heads Cigars that was launched in 2021. The name means "the pastry chef" in French and reflects the inspiration behind the cigar line. The first connection between French cuisine and cigars was established with the cigars of Le Carême. The idea behind this cigar series was to create a tribute to the pioneer while also indicating that these cigars offer chocolatey flavors.

A Culinary Cigar Journey
The blend features a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder from Jalapa, and filler tobaccos from Costa Rica and Nicaragua, resulting in an interesting and unusual flavor profile. Characteristic are the earthy and nutty notes, while the chocolate flavors, despite the brand's name, are not overly dominant.

The Sweet Temptation of Le Patissier Cigars

The Crowned Heads cigar brand was founded in 2011 by Jon Huber and Mike Conder, who previously worked for CAO Cigars. The brand name was inspired by a poem by T. S. Eliot, conveying the idea that every person is a kind of king in their own life. Crowned Heads has built an excellent reputation for creative and engaging blends, often inspired by art, music, and pop culture. Some of the most well-known cigars from Crowned Heads include Four Kicks, Juarez, Luminosas, and Mil Dias.

Tasting Report
Cigars exterior: oily, dark wrapper. Cigars interior: firm rolling. Smoke: ample smoke volume. Flavor: sweet, pepper, leather, toast, cream.

4. Crowned Heads Mil Dias Corona Gorda

The Mil Dias cigar series from Crowned Heads marks the second line produced at the renowned Tabacalera Pichardo. Their partnership began with the launch of the highly affordable Juarez cigar line in August 2020, a collaboration between Jon Huber, co-founder of Crowned Heads, and the talented duo Luciano Meirelles and Eradio Pichardo.

The name "Mil Dias" reflects the 1000 days of development time invested in this extraordinary blend. The journey began in 2017 when Luciano and Eradio from Pichardo presented Jon Huber with a selection of samples of the original blend.

A Lasting Impression
The smooth, slightly oily, light brown wrapper and flawless construction promise a special smoking experience. These promises are fulfilled upon lighting: the blend starts mild, soft, and creamy—a perfect introduction for connoisseurs! Subsequently, a rich aroma unfolds that is not overpowering but rather balanced and appealing. Although the strength increases over time, the flavor remains at the forefront. In the final third, the creaminess diminishes, making way for a pronounced wood note that rounds off the overall experience.

It is fascinating how Luciano and Eradio from ACE Prime Cigars manage to create such a high-quality product that meets the preferences of many aficionados. If you enjoy the Mil Dias cigars, you should definitely explore the other lines from these two master blenders.

8. Crowned Heads Jericho Hill Jack Brown Double Robusto

The Crowned Heads Jericho Hill line is the fourth series from the brand and is a Nicaraguan puro through and through. The dark San Andres wrapper, top-quality tobaccos in the filler and binder create a complex and robust flavor profile. The volume is very full-bodied and satisfying. Crowned Heads themselves describe the tasting experience as one that rushes through the palate at breakneck speed, racing a hundred miles through the mouth and leaving behind a cloud of power, intensity, and excitement. Certainly an American exaggeration, but the essence of the description holds true. This is a cigar for lovers of stronger and more intense blends. Jericho Hill - inspired by Johnny Cash!

The Crowned Heads Jericho Hill line is inspired by the song "Cocaine Blues" from the album "At Folsom Prison" by the famous musician Johnny Cash. In the song, a man named Willy Lee, who has gone astray, is apprehended by the sheriff of Jericho Hill in Mexico. What this has to do with a cigar is not entirely clear to us. But the guys at Crowned Heads certainly have no shortage of imagination.

10. Crowned Heads La Carême Robusto

The Le Careme cigars were first introduced in the USA in 2016 and have been available with us since the summer of 2022. As is customary with cigars from Crowned Heads, there is a fascinating story behind the name. They are a tribute to the culinary pioneer of the 19th century, Marie-Antoine Careme. He lived from 1784 to 1833 in Paris and laid the foundations for the modern success of refined French cuisine. His likeness can still be seen today on the Médaille de l'Académie culinaire de France.

Le Careme by Crowned Heads: A Cigar to Enjoy

These cigars are produced at Tabacalera La Alianza S.A. by Ernesto Perez-Carrillo in the Dominican Republic. This is also where the cigars for Four Kicks, Headley Grange, and J.D. Howard Reserve for Crowned Heads are rolled. Ernesto is said to have remarked about this blend that it tastes almost like a chocolate soufflé! This flavor is achieved through the Connecticut Broadleaf Grade A wrapper, Ecuadorian Sumatra binder, and Nicaraguan filler.

The Le Careme impresses with its diverse and harmonious flavors such as bittersweet chocolate, roasted coffee, wood, and pepper. It pairs well as a dessert after a hearty meal. The Le Careme is a medium to full-bodied cigar with a complex and enjoyable smoking experience. The burn was even, and its smoke was voluminous.

Tasting Report:
Cigar exterior: veiny, rustic wrapper
Cigar interior: firm rolling
Smoke: ample smoke volume
Flavor: chocolate, wood, earth, pepper, coffee
Burn: good burn behavior.
