In our search for small, lesser-known producers who create exceptional wines, we came across Pago de Vallegarcía. This ambitious project was initiated by entrepreneur and wine enthusiast Alfonso Cortina. In bringing his ideas to life, he left nothing to chance. He selected an extraordinary piece of land near Toledo, on the edge of the well-known nature reserve "Cabañeros," and enlisted the renowned Australian viticulture expert Dr. Richard Smart to establish the vineyards. 31 hectares of land have been planted with typical Bordeaux and Rhône grape varieties, located at an altitude of 850 meters in the Montes de Toledo. The continental climate, with hot summers and cooler nights during the harvest season, is perfect for the ripening of the grapes and the development of aromas in the final stages of maturation. A dedicated young team of oenologists and wine professionals produces exceptionally harmonious and profound wines here, in a modern winery, which are now among the best produced in the southern half of the Iberian Peninsula. Well-known wine critics like Robert Parker and José Peñin have not hesitated to give top ratings.
