Made with mostly Sangiovese supplemented by the structural heft and texture of Cabernet Sauvignon, which makes up roughly 20% of the blend, this is a profound and important red wine from Tuscany. The Mazzei 2019 Concerto di Fonterutoli is your proverbial steak buddy or all-round meat wine, with abundant black fruit, spice, tannins, and acidity to cut through the fat and gristle. By a hair, I prefer the depth and intensity of the 2019 vintage compared to the 2018 vintage that I tasted at this same sitting. This wine is slightly more etched and angular, making it a good bet for extra bottle aging.
