In 1801, the Guinness brewers were faced with a truly great challenge: to brew a porter that could withstand a five-week sea voyage to tropical countries without losing quality. The solution was a heavily hopped beer with significantly higher original gravity, yet just as drinkable as the classic Guinness found in local pubs. The West Indies Porter not only survived the sea journey to India but has also become an icon. It is an extremely flavorful, fruity porter with notes of brown sugar and cedarwood.
