After the lost battle against Godzilla, Haruo Sakaki is rescued by the humanoid Miana and learns that there are still humans underground on Earth who have survived Godzilla's reign of terror. According to a legend of the indigenous Hotua tribe, Godzilla once killed the god of the Hotua, but remnants of this god have remained. An ancient nanometal, which can be used to create Mechagodzilla, also ignites humanity's hope.
