After losing the battle against Godzilla, Haruo Sakaki is rescued by the humanoid Miana and learns that there are still people on Earth underground who have survived Godzilla's reign of terror. Following a legend of the indigenous tribe of the Hotua, Godzilla once killed the god of the Hotua, but remains of him have been preserved. An ancient nanometal that can be used to create Mechagodzilla also sparks hope for humanity.
