"Hagane no Renkinjutsushi" (2009) is now the second anime realisation of Hiromu Arakawa's manga of the same name. However, this is not a sequel to the 2003 anime, but rather a retelling of the Elric brothers' story, which is much more based on the manga template than the first anime adaptation. The two brothers and alchemists Edward and Alphonse Elric made a fatal mistake when they were young: When they fail to carry out a strictly forbidden transmutation, Edward loses a leg. His brother is even worse off. Edward can only save him by sacrificing his own arm in an equivalent exchange and tying Alphon's soul to an armor - but his body seems lost.
