The twin-engine, two-seat swing-wing jet F-14 Tomcat from Grumman Aerospace Corporation was in service with the US Navy from 1974 to 2006. Its primary roles were as an air superiority fighter and reconnaissance aircraft to support and defend the fleet against enemy air attacks. It was succeeded by the F/A-18 Super Hornet. The F-14A Tomcat is the most frequently used combat aircraft by Maverick in the first Top Gun film and has a supporting role in Top Gun: Maverick.
