There is an opening between the gas connection and the kettle grill. Is that correct, although gas flows through there and could escape?

This is a venturi tube, where air/oxygen is supplied to the gas, otherwise it will not burn. There should be a stainless steel grille over the opening, this prevents insects/spiders from getting in and should always be clean. Kind regards.....
