Is it possible to change the battery? My display is off and it stays that way when I plug it in for a long time. Do I have electronic waste now?

No, you can't change the battery. No, it is not electronic waste. Just leave it in the socket for a while - preferably overnight - then press the reset button and everything works again. This has happened to me a few times.
Since you have obviously had the plug in the socket for some time, pressing the reset button should be sufficient.
