The head is razor-sharp on two edges, making it perfect for a variety of cutting tasks, from pruning branches to making kindling and clearing a campsite. The sharpened blade is useful for clearing pathways and trails of small, obstructive branches and can be swung across the body to remove dense vegetation.

The mattock-like blade with a chisel tip is excellent for debarking, digging, and tasks in the backcountry where shaping large pieces of wood is beneficial. The reinforced top edge of the mattock serves as a guard to reduce wear and damage from accidental contact with the ground while also providing a grip point when holding the head for crafting tasks.
