Product details

Stipa tenuissima, also known as Spanish grass, is a fully feathered, hardy, perennial, and beautiful grass variety with very fine leaves. This ornamental grass plant features a rich inflorescence of very fine flower stems, reaching up to about 50 cm in height, that sway beautifully in the wind. Stipa has lovely light yellow-green leaves covered with fluffy panicles of silvery-green flowers that mature to a blond yellow. This versatile grass is ideal for a sunny garden, a large ornamental pot, or a perennial border. The waving plumes create a rustic and calming effect in a light breeze. The plant also fits perfectly in an oriental-style garden.

Care: Cultivate Stipa in any fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. It is recommended to cut back Stipa in the spring to about 20 cm above the ground. The grasses will then quickly sprout again and form new 'hairs.' Alternatively, in spring, you can gently comb through the grass clumps with garden gloves to help the dead leaves detach from the base of the plant. This ornamental grass remains green even in winter and can withstand temperatures down to -15 degrees.
