Product details

Stipa tenuissima, also known as Spanish grass, is a fully feathery, hardy, perennial and beautiful grass variety with very fine leaves. The ornamental grass plant has a rich inflorescence of very fine flower stems up to approx. 50 cm high, which sway beautifully in the wind. Stipa has beautiful light yellow-green leaves that are covered with fluffy panicles of silvery-green flowers that mature to a blonde-yellow colour. This versatile grass is ideal for a sunny garden, a large ornamental pot or a herbaceous border. The waving plumes have a rural and calming effect in a light breeze. The plant also fits perfectly in an oriental-style garden.

Care
Cultivate the Stipa in any fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. It is recommended to cut the Stipa back to about 20 cm above the ground in spring. The grasses will then quickly sprout again and form new 'hairs'. Alternatively, you can carefully comb your fingers through the tufts of grass in spring with gardening gloves so that the dead leaves detach from the base of the plant. This ornamental grass remains green even in winter and can withstand temperatures down to -15 degrees.
