The Fargesia 'Asian Wonder' is the only red bamboo in the world. This Fargesia is a truly exclusive bamboo species that is rarely found in commerce. The red color appears after 2 to 3 years. The stems turn red when exposed to direct sunlight, meaning the more sunlight, the redder the stems become. After a few years, the stems can reach a diameter of 2 cm. In addition to the red stems, the Fargesia also has beautiful light green leaves. This Fargesia grows as a compact shrub with many closely spaced stems and can reach a height of 3 to 4 meters. The stems grow straight up and droop slightly at the top. Besides being non-invasive, this species is also hardy down to -18 degrees Celsius.
The Asian Wonder plant, Fargesia, is evergreen, frost-resistant, and does not spread. The plant prefers a spot in the sun or partial shade. In summer and on hot days, this plant requires quite a bit of water. When planted in the open ground, a planting distance of 40 to 60 cm is recommended.
