Product details
The trekking axe set from the German tool forge Bison 1879 comes with useful equipment for on-the-go: a fire steel for igniting a campfire, a duo sharpening stone for easy resharpening, and a sturdy leather pouch with belt loops and a carrying handle for compact, lightweight transport.
The small axe is very handy and features a compact head with a short handle length of just 250 mm. It is the ideal companion for trekking and hiking tours: with a low weight of 550 g and a short handle, the axe can be comfortably carried on a belt or in a backpack. At the same time, it meets all the requirements that larger models can fulfill. The rounded end of the handle allows for a grip far back on the handle, enabling powerful strikes for splitting and chopping firewood. When the axe is swung behind the head, it can perform various tasks such as carving shavings, sharpening sticks, or making feathersticks for use at the campsite and campfire. The blade is finely sharpened, and the hickory wood handle is double-wedged for maximum safety.
With the round metal rod made from a special metal alloy, you can easily ignite the campfire. When the fire steel is rubbed against hard metal, such as a knife spine, sparks with very high temperatures are produced, which first cause the prepared tinder nest to smolder and then ignite when feathersticks are added. To keep the axe's blade sharp during trekking tours, the duo sharpening stone is very useful. It has two different grits: grit 120 for coarse initial sharpening and grit 320 for fine sharpening and honing of the blade. Due to its small size, the stone is lightweight and easy to handle.
