Don't you need a permit to go out to sea in this rubber boat?

Yes, officially a permit is required. Inflatable boats longer than 2.50 metres must always be registered.

This answer does not correspond to my understanding of the corresponding regulation, I have also read in a book about dinghies in Switzerland that it is sufficient to mark one's own name and address on the boat in a clearly visible way. Galaxus now also makes the same comment. This would mean that a dinghy complies with the letters c or d of the BSV Art 16, which is not 100% clear to me (see https://www.admin.ch/opc...) it would be great if a lawyer or the legislator would comment -with reference-.

I have just phoned the ZH road traffic office. If the inflatable boat (without motor) is only used on the river or near the shore, it does not have to be registered.

This inflatable boat must be registered in Zurich! Since it is longer than 2.50 m, it is no longer considered a bathing device (not even a beach boat), but a ship, and must therefore be registered with the Road Traffic Office.

If something is classified as a "ship", it must have valid identification, i.e. be registered. I guess the classification is handled differently from canton to canton (because it is not in this law).

It's probably best to go directly to the office. The form requires 100 enclosures, which do not apply to inflatable boats at all.
The costs are kept within reasonable limits. If I understand correctly, it's about 32 euros in taxes per year.
