"Do you have the Friends cam, Ray?" The name stuck. Friends are the most iconic cam ever made. Throughout its 38-year history, the design has evolved, but its essence remains the same. At the heart of every iteration is the definitive 13.75-degree cam angle; described, refined, and developed by Wild Country, it has been proven in thousands of climbing cracks since 1977. This new Friend is no exception. Built with a double axle, it remains a Friend. At its core, our constant 13.75-degree cam angle provides the axis on which future climbers will place their trust. Sturdy and reliable, this Friend combines classic features with significant enhancements to create a fascinating blend of old and new. Externally stylish with distinctive design elements, it draws attention to numerous clever upgrades: hollow axles (patent pending) are stiffer and lighter, wide, beveled lobes provide better grip while being gentler on the rock, and the new 12 mm Dyneema is agile and easy to extend, saving time and reducing weight since no carabiner is needed for each individual unit. The internal components are based on classic Wild Country fundamentals: our legendary holding power and the consistency of overlap between units, while the double axle has allowed us to increase the range per unit.
