Simply attach the belt around your waist, inflate the air chamber through the mouth valve, and pull the buoy behind you while swimming. The buoy creates almost no resistance in the water. You can also store useful items like an energy bar or your keys in a separate compartment from the air chamber, keeping them easily accessible.
